Home (for now)

I am currently living in the organization's house. The office is downstairs and upstairs is a little apartment with two bedrooms. The other new staff member is currently living in the other. It is simple, but satisfactory, with a little kitchen including small fridge and two burner propane stove, small bathroom with shower, a common room with a wee table, and a very lovely porch with cushions, lounges, and a hammock.

The house is wood board (like most here). The walls are not sealed, but the roof keeps out the (frequent) rain very well. My room is very simple - the cross braces for the wood boards make handy two inch wide shelves. There is a plastic chest of drawers into which I have stashed all my clothes, a few nails for hanging, a small desk, and a mattress on the floor. There are screens on the window, and a screen door to the room, so in theory no mosquito net is needed, but some still choose to use them (no malaria, but for dengue). I will live here for a month or two, until I find my own place in town.

  1. It looks beautiful, Jen! I can't wait to hear more about it. I'm glad you made it there safely.

  2. Wow, Jen, it's so nice! I guess I've spent too much time listening to Robin describe bathrooms in Yemen, so that's what I was expecting! I'm glad you won't have to be showering out of a bucket. :)
