The Rainforest Cafe, Thai style

So I've heard in the states there is a place called the Rainforest Cafe, where the walls are covered in artificial foliage, animatronic birds hoot as you, and mist falls from the ceiling during 'rain showers'.

Tonight, to celebrate Ryan's birthday, I ate at the Mae Sot version of this novelty restaurant. Except that it was alive. The designers cultivated the restaurant for ten years prior to its opening, so that it is set in an actual living jungle setting, carefully landscaped and manicured, to be sure, but alive nonetheless.

I had heard about it, and suspected that it would still be rather cheesy, but to the contrary, it is actually very beautiful, and serene. The food is average, but the higher than average prices are I think justified by the enjoyable and peaceful setting. Definitely worth a try when you come visit me in Mae Sot ;)
