Last Saturday night we had a long anticipated event - the pocket party. There is a small group of foodies here in Mae Sot that have sought each other out. We meet every other month or so for a 'gourmet' cook off of sorts. Everyone is dedicated to going all in and creating some outstanding dishes, so our meals are always immensely enjoyable.
Our latest idea was to create a meal entirely of pocketed foods - that is, encapsulated or filled foods. As usual, it was a most enjoyable feast. Our menu included: chinese dumplings; three varieties of empanadas; indian pappadam rolls; steamed fish buns; pumpkin, mushroom, and goat cheese ravioli with sage and brown butter sauce; and pumpkin cake with cream cheese filling. Not too shabby for Mae Sot..
Our next endeavor is Mediterranean, which is more of an undertaking than you might think, given our limited ingredient selection (i.e., I need to start practicing making tahini). After that we want to choose another food 'shape'. If you have any suggestions, send them my way!
yum! I'm very impressed.
