Today while at the market, I got a call from my friend Jade that her power was out, and she wanted help changing a fuse. Her neighbors all had power, so she knew it wasn't a general outage, so the fuse was the next logical step. I came round, but we couldn't find a skinny enough screwdriver, so I came home to grab mine.... only to find that my power was out as well... and my neighbor's also have power.
So either the power company is targeting employees of my organization, or, we both failed to pay our electric bill this month. Apparently, there isn't much of a grace period for paying your bill around here... My landlord used to pay my bill, and I repaid her when I paid my rent, but last month the bill showed up at my house for the first time. This month, the bill didn't come, but then last week my neighbor brought it over - apparently he had gotten his and mine. Now granted, I have dallied a week and haven't paid yet, and I don't know how long the neighbor had it before he brought it over, but I definitely paid last month, so it can't be more than a week or two late. Alas, no mercy.
Ironically, I sit here typing this in my candlelit house.. The internet router is at my (well lit) neighbor's house, and my battery life is good, so even without power, I'm still connected. Don't know whether to relish that or be sheepish at my addition to technology. Or guilty that I'm using my limited battery life to post instead of finishing my reading for work...
At any rate, tomorrow I'll pay the hefty fee to have my power turned back on. Hopefully thats the only cause of my temporary setback.
post script: The 'hefty fee' turned out to be 107 THB, which is about $3.47. And, I watched him turn my power back on, so I know how to do it should the need arise again...
