A new year

Nearly two months since my last post - though I'm glad I was able to see some of you during my few weeks home during that time. I particularly enjoyed spending time with my new nephew Bence, and my brief visit with James. For the rest, I'm sorry to have missed you, and look forward to the next visit. Not sure when that will be, but certainly I'll be around briefly in October for a certain wedding. :)

I arrived back to Mae Sot on the 6th of January, and it has been a whirlwind ever since. I'm in Bangkok at the moment, having come here a week and a half ago for some meetings, then having veered over to the border for a trauma surgery training, and now back again, for more meetings, and a rendezous, before heading to Sankhlaburi with some of our US staff to meet with some partners there. Finally back to Mae Sot on Feb 5th, just in time for our 'summit' and then off again, to India.

As of the new year I am also working for a new organization: Community Partners International. My original employer has merged with another Burma related NGO, and while the two will continue with their previous activities under 'DBA's ('Doing Business As'), there is a new umbrella structure governing us both, bearing the new name. My day to day life and duties won't change much, but we will hopefully benefit from having a more shored administrative structure, and larger operating budget, which should aid in the acquisition of larger grants.

A recent article about one of our partners: http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2011/jan/25/thailand-burma-conflict-medic-tang. My quote was rather freely interpreted, but the gist is there, ha.
