Nong Bua / Noe Boh

The final map is still in progress - but I thought I would post this prelim. The yellow lines are just where we happened to walk, but since we started by walking the perimeter of the camp, you can see the boundary clearly.

The green pegs are latrines. this camp has _far_ more than most, including the other one we mapped. Apparently it became a fad for families to have their own, which resulted in a bloom of poorly built latrines, leading to a potential wat/san nightmare. Most were not deep enough, did not have a bowl or cover plate, or ventilation. Of those with bowls, almost none had water for flushing, and those without had no ash for covering. Also, this multitude of latrines were on a hill (as the camp was), and the stream and shallow wells from which water is taken for drinking are at the bottom of this hill.

New wat/san projects are underway to address these problems, and a camp meeting called by the camp leaders has addressed the latrine bloom. Total contrast with the other camp we surveyed, which had too few latrines, which has also since been addressed.
