A way to share a bit of my life here with my family and friends, and to offer a few reflections on living on the Thai/Burma border.

Fresh
March is supposed to be the second hottest month of the year in Thailand, but today I'm wearing a long sleeve shirt and jeans, and I'm chilly. The high yesterday did not top 70 F, and is not supposed to today or tomorrow either. It has been raining for a week, and for the last 36 hours nearly non-stop. Even in the rainy season here, it is not this cool. Typically, March - May are HOT and very dry, June- September are pretty hot, and very wet, and October -February are 'cool' (its all relative) and dry. To be both wet and cool, as it is now, is freakishly out of season weather, but we are loving it, drinking up every lovely refreshing breath. There is a nagging thought, though, that we shouldn't be enjoying it, because it probably represents some larger weather pattern disturbance that will lead to flooding, crops failures, or other hardship. But for the moment, we will embrace this brief brisk window, and savor it. The current forecast shows a return to upper 90's temps by early next week. Ironically, we just had AC installed in our office last week, to help mitigate the significant drop in productivity that normally occurs during the brutal months of March and April. We have so far only turned it on once, and the office quickly grew too cold, so we turned if off again... At least when the heat final does rear its ugly soul crushing head, we will be ready, refreshed, and armed.
