I swam at the reservoir at sunset today. It was achingly beautiful,
with rays of blue cutting through that perfect orange pink unique to and
integral for a truly spectacular sunset. The only time I have seen
that color emulated is in a Rothko painting: fiery sunset on top and
midnight blue beneath; I love that painting. Tonight the sky was clear
and the setting sun silhouetted rise after rise of rolling mountains
until cloud and peak were indistinguishable. I stood watching, until
all the color had leaked from the sky. My heart hurts thinking of how
much I will miss the beauty of this place.
