At last, the cool season has begun. The heat lingered on, unusually far into November, leaving all of us longing for the promised cooler days. Day after day, sure that the next would break, only to wake to the hot sun once again. At last, on Thursday, a subtle shift, the breeze fresher, the afternoon not quite as hot, the evening almost cool. Friday cooler still, rising before 7, I for the first time lamented leaving the warmth of my bed, and the limited heating power of my shower. The midday sun is still strong enough to forestall the application of a description such as cold, but we have definitely, finally, entered the long awaited season. These months of perfect weather, of brisk nights, and pleasant breezes. Of long evenings sitting outside wondering at the perfection. Of refreshing mornings, and warming afternoons, of being able to wear jackets, and closed toe shoes. Of not living sweat drenched, and without the constant battle against mold. Ah the cool season, thank you for appearing, at last.
PS - ever since posting this, Etta James has been running through my head...
